The construction of the Nairobi National Museum
all began in 1929 for the National Museum in Nairobi, when the colonial government of the time granted him land on the hill of Museum Hill. This great museum was initiated in 1910 by the Natural History Society of Uganda and East Africa. The first construction only began in 1929. At its grand opening Sept. 22, 1930, he was first called the museum to honor the Coryndon Sir Robert Coryndon before becoming the National Museum of Kenya when independence was proclaimed in 1963.
The construction of the different galleries that make up was made possible through the use of public funds launched in the 40 and 50 by Dr. Louis Leakey. As for the snake park, one of the biggest attractions of the museum, its construction was intended to show the public the different species of reptiles and snakes living in Kenya. From 1969, Nairobi National Museum has extended its heritage beyond its borders, opening branches in other countries. However, following extensive refurbishment, it had to close its doors before reopening in 2008.
